Medicare coverage depends on the medication, the reason it is prescribed, your Medicare drug coverage, and the applicable program rules. Starting July 1, 2026, Medicare says certain eligible people with Part D coverage may receive access to specific GLP-1 medications through the temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.
The Bridge has eligibility requirements and covers only certain products and formulations. A prescriber must send the prescription to a pharmacy and may need to complete prior authorization. People who use a GLP-1 for an indication already covered through their Medicare Part D plan may follow a different coverage process. Your plan can confirm its formulary, prior authorization rules, and whether the prescription should be processed under your regular Part D benefit.
